Suitable from 7+ months and perfect for the whole family
These Strawberry Cheesecake Danish Pastries are not only great for baby led weaning (BLW), but you can also tweak the recipe slightly by adding a little icing sugar and they are a delicious sweet treat for older kids and grown ups as well! You can add the icing sugar if your baby is older than 12 months, as babies shouldn't have added sugar before the age of 1.
Not only do they taste amazing but they are also pretty as well, I used a heart shape cutter as I made them for a Valentine's day treat but you can use any shape cutter to make these strawberry cheesecake danish pastries, or a sharp knife if you prefer.
For this recipe I used thawed frozen strawberries, but it will work just as well with fresh strawberries. You could also make cheesecake danish pastries by using one of my favourite BLW and weaning hacks - adding a fruit based baby puree to the cream cheese.
If you like the look of the strawberry cheesecake danish pastries then also check out my Strawberries and Cream Stuffed French Toast for another yummy baby led weaning (BLW) treat!
My 3 year old Maxie and my 8 month old Eloise (who I'm currently weaning) both absolutely love these strawberry cheesecake danish pastries. I take out part of the strawberry and cream cheese mixture for Eloise's portions before I add the icing sugar for Maxie's, then I just have to remember which side is who's.
Once cooked I dust Maxie's with a little more icing sugar and store them separately so I don't get confused (if in doubt I do the taste test...such a hardship!).
If you give them a go be sure to tag me on Instagram and let me know if you liked them!
Makes 9
Strawberry Cheesecake Danish Pastries
Ingredients
1 sheet of ready made puff pastry
150g soft cheese
200g strawberries (you can use thawed frozen ones like I did!)
1 tbsp icing sugar if baby is over the age of one
Method
Preheat oven to 200c
In a large bow mash the strawberries with a fork
Add the cream cheese and mix well
If you’re making these for kids over the age of 1 you can now add the icing sugar and mix again
Roll out the pastry and use a heart shape cutter to make 6 heart shapes. You can use a rolling pin to roll out the excess pastry and repeat the process
Use a sharp knife to outline a smaller heart inside the pastry shapes
Add the strawberry cheesecakes mixture to the centre of the heart shapes and use a spoon to spread it out but keep it within then centre heart
Use a knife to cut a triangle in the top of a strawberry where the stalk is, then slice the strawberry length ways to create heart shapes
Place the heart shaped strawberries in the centre of the pastries and bake in the oven for 15 minutes
Allow to cool then dust with icing sugar for older babies, kids and adults
